Jim Thompson,
a former American Officer of the last world war, was known all over
the world for he was the one that made the sleeping Thai home industry
of silk – weaving known far and wide. But Jim, who disappeared in
1964, was also an Art collector and he had bought three traditional
wooden houses up – country, which he had knocked down and
reconstructed in Bangkok along a scenic “klong”. He then proceeded to
furnish them with priceless furniture and objects of Art. This is the
piece of resistance we first proceed to furnish them with priceless
furniture and objects of Art. This is the piece of resistance we
first visit.
To keep on the same note, we now proceed to the National
Museum that has some of the most fabulous displays of sculptures,
statues and Royal Regalia of the past.
On our way back to the hotel, we will stop at the “Lak
Muang” or City Pillar, and witness people in need of godly favors pay
respect to the place and bring some offering, at times starting an
impromptu dance to propitiate the Gods.
